The M.S. in Statistics is designed to provide recipients with a strong mathematical background and experience in statistical computing with various applications.
For admission to all of our graduate programs a minimum 3.0 GPA is required, and a Bachelors degree in Mathematics or a strong background in mathematics is highly recommended. In addition to a full sequence of calculus, differential equations, and linear algebra, we strongly encourage a year’s sequence in both abstract algebra and real analysis.
The GRE General Test is required for everyone applying to a UCSD graduate program. For the M.S. in Statistics program, the requirement for the GRE Math Subject Test may be waived if you will have completed an undergraduate degree in either Pure Mathematics or Applied Mathematics by the time you start UCSD. However, if your undergraduate degree is not in either Pure or Applied Mathematics, you must submit a GRE Math Subject Test score.
